Spring Fling

Big Man's school had it's Spring Fling today.  I didn't know what that was before now.  Each grade has a theme and a dance.  The first grade did 'Surfing USA'.  They decorated their own surfboards.  It was cute.  The 6th grade did the Maypole.  I had never seen or heard of the Maypole before.  I don't know if it's a small town thing or what.  Jeff grew up doing it at school.  It was pretty cool.

They also did an art show throughout the school before the Spring Fling.  We had to search for Big Man's art for a while, every hall and wall in the school were covered.  It was amazing.  They'd gone to a lot of work.  I like that the picture of him is holding a sword in one hand and a flower in the other.  He was so proud to display his work.  It was cute.

My Daughter is a NUT!!!

Tonight was Little Princess's dance recital.  I didn't know my daughter was such a nut.  She was definitely not shy up on stage (unlike the little girl next to her crying).  She knew most of the dances but did not exactly do it at the same time as the other girls.  She also made up her own choreography for some of the dance.  During the second dance, her friend's flower fell down, so she picked it up and tried to put it back on.  She also thought it was fun to play with her skirt and lift it up.  Oh boy.  It was definitely funny.  The good news is I got it all on video for future viewing.  We can use it to tease her when she gets older :)

Little Man's Preschool Graduation

When we moved to Mona, I made a decision on a preschool based on the recommendation of a friend.  The previous 3 preschool years were all at a place I knew and loved.  So jumping into this new preschool after moving was kind of hard.  But I have to say that I absolutely love how the year has gone.  It's been a lot of fun changes and new ideas.  Little Man has just thrived.  He made some good friends and learned a lot.

His graduation tonight was so much fun.  They started out doing nursery rhymes.  We came up with a simple costume for a billy goat.  The headband is supposed to be horns and ears.  Pretty close, right?  It was the best I could do.  He was pretty nervous but did a great job.  After they all performed their nursery rhymes, his teacher played a slide show of pictures from the year while they changed and got their gowns on.  I don't know what came over me but I was in tears during most of the video.  It was so fun to see him learning and having fun with his class and friends.  I realized how much I love this little guy and how proud I am of him.  He's a good kid.  He's grown up so fast.

The kids walked in as their names were announced and took their seats on the stage.  They sang a few songs and then they were given their diplomas.  At the end they got to throw their caps.  It was really cute.  In the back of the gym was artwork they had worked on all year, sculptures they'd made, and books they'd created.  We left with a big bag full of stuff :)  It was a fun night.   It's fun that tonight was all about Little Man.  Sometimes it's hard to be the second child, but he takes it all in stride.

Earlier in the week his teacher had sent home a progress report of everything he knows.  He got excellent marks and she had written the nicest comments.  When I read the comments to Little Man, he just beamed.  It's been a good year.  I hope that Kindergarten is just as successful!  We've been working on reading every day after lunch (okay most days). He is reading great.  He sounds out a lot of words, but there are a lot that he looks at and just knows.  We also do some 'sight words'.  It's been fun for him to see his sight words in other locations-on signs, on TV, etc.  He gets all excited when he sees a sight word.  Both of my boys are smart, but I think Little Man is a lot more prepared going into Kindergarten.  Hopefully we can keep up the good habits over the summer.

Hansen Family Clan.

We went up to Idaho this last weekend for two baby blessings.  This was the first time in three years that Jeff's whole family was together so we did family pictures as well.  I posted our little family picture, I'll do some other when I get them edited.  We all stayed at Jeff's sister's house.  There were 22 of us.  It was a little crazy with that many kids, but it was fun.

The pictures I posted were just random ones from the whole weekend.  We had a graduation party for Uncle Andy who just graduated from UVU and it was our last get together with everyone for a while since Uncle Dave is shipping out to Afghanistan soon.
